Google Image Labeler

It is not really a 3D or VFX related topic, but I thought I post about it anyway, because it ia way to much fun. Google has released something they call Image Labeler. For Google it is a way to improve the accuracy of their image searches. But for us, the users, it is a nice game. And I have to applaud Google for coming up with it. It is fun, it is short enough for a little work break game and you get overall rankings and can play with a little high-score incentive.

But I am getting ahead of myself. What is Google Image Labeler? It is a little game where you team up with an anonymous partner (someone who is online and plays the game just now, too). You and your partner get shown the same image and have to write anything that comes to your mind about the image (in web speech: you have to tag the image). If you and your partner have one matching tag, you get 100 points and the next image is shown. The whole game runs for 90 seconds.

My personal best was a score of 600, which means I tagged an image with at least one attribute my partner also had and that six times within the 90 seconds. Highscores are around 1400-2000 at the moment.

Oh and one little tip, which took me 2 rounds to find out: Press enter after every tag, otherwise you get one tag that says “wedding man woman husband wife” instead of 5 tags that say “wedding”, “man”, “woman”, “husband” and “wife”.

I really dig this game, because it is an association based game. You have to be creative and fast. It trains the visual thinking process and that’s what we all need in this business. So head over to the Google Image Labeler and train you visual brain.
